Your wedding cake is like the centerpiece of your reception. While your guests will always remember the food, they wont remember it the way they remember the cake. A cake that is beautifully designed and tastes great will be especially remembered. Both of these aspects of your cake are important. Don't disappoint your guests by making them excited for dessert time only to serve them bland cake! And since your cake cutting will be photographed, make sure your cake looks good as well! Choosing your cake is another fun part of the planning process. Whether you go with your fiancé or your mother, who isn't going to enjoy spending some time sampling cake?! Several couples these days are opting for cupcakes. Cupcakes allow you to have an easier time to determine how many you'll need (one cupcake per guest or two?), and it takes the hassle out of cutting the cake into properly sized slices to accommodate everyone. Cupcakes also allow you to offer a larger variety of flavors (and designs!). If you're a red-velvet lover but your fiancé or several of your guests are chocaholics, cupcakes allows you to provide both options and any other options you'd like to provide. Does your favorite aunt have a gluten allergy? You can offer a variety of gluten free cupcakes in addition to the rest! Some couples even provide both options. Commonly we see couples have a smaller wedding cake for the purpose of having cake-cutting photos, and then cupcakes are served to the guests. Another common tradition is a grooms cake. Couples often have a second cake catered to the grooms personality or interests - if the groom is a huge sports fan, consider a baseball cake, etc.
